Social Media for Social Movements
Before technology, social movements were developed and transmitted across traditional formats such as television, newspaper, and radio. Printed propaganda assisted in outreach to consumers, a nightly television broadcast about a local rally promoted awareness, and radio shows opened up household conversations. Today various social platforms have been utilized to promote and create social movements in our society, "The best empirical evidence is that revolutionary movements today will certainly include
social media, and may even need it". (Kidd & McIntosh, 2016, p. 793). Technological advancements have allowed audiences to connect and gather about issues in real-time. However, in participating in the reposting of information one must be certain it is reliable and reputable. As technology advances so will social media and the habits that individuals form when utilizing them. Below are the links to two videos that discuss how social media has assisted in social movements.
